This Workshop will be held jointly with the 6-th International Workshop on Next-generation Climate models for Advanced High Performance Computing Facilities. Objective The "Kyousei" project has started in 2002, where the objective is to develop a next-generation climate model by using the Earth Simulator. As you know, the Earth Simulator is the most powerful super-computer in the world with 40TFLOP. Its huge computational capability and high performance is highly appreciated. We have been discussing what will be a next-generation climate model in the high performance computing facilities since 1999 in the Workshop on Next-generation Climate models for Advanced High Performance Computing Facilities. Through these discussion and research, most of models have been prepared and are being developed in the "Kyousei"-projects. Beside Japanese activities, much effort to develop a next-generation model is being pursued in many places. For example, a new concept of "Super Parameterization" has appeared and a non-hydrostatic model becomes feasible in the large domain. However, there remain many issues for model development and it is beneficial for us to exchange our information and experience. Furthermore, an impact of computer technology is huge. In order to discuss the future development of models, the future of the computer technology is indispensable. As we have jointly the 6-th International Workshop on Next-generation Climate models for Advanced High Performance Computing Facilities, the presentation of computer technology will be expected. Presentation of venders about their future strategy is planned. Topics
